About Me

Headshot

Hello and Welcome! I'm a retired mechanical engineer with 25 years of experience in the automotive and gas turbine industry. Most of my career was spent designing, analyzing, and optimizing complex parts so that they work better, last longer, and run more efficiently. Throughout my career, I applied rigorous analysis to solve tough, "real life" engineering problems.

Along the way, I became deeply interested in investing and personal finance. But I quickly discovered that the financial world is full of "noise" — confusing jargon, disorganized data, generic advice and rules of thumb that often don't apply to your situation.

Each stage of our life has different sets of questions and needs, and I soon came to see this as part of a Financial Lifecycle that we all go through. Being analytical, I wanted a tool that would allow me to experiment, model my own situation, run "what if" scenarios, and plan for the long term. I wanted something powerful, flexible, and affordable that I could use myself. I didn't find it. Financial planners can help, but the ability to experiment and run simulations on your own and in the privacy of your home, was missing.

So, I decided to build my own tool … and this website is the result. My goals are simple:

  • Education - Teach the basics of personal finance
  • Resources - Provide market data, model portfolios and performance datasets to help you make investment decisions
  • Product - A powerful Excel-based DIY financial planning tool, LCF Planner, that enables you to explore your finances

I hope you find my tool and this website useful! Please provide your feedback; and if you have suggestions for improvement or want enhancements, please email me at admin@lcfplanner.com(opens in new tab)
